About PVUMC

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church is a place to connect, grow, and serve!

At PVUMC, we believe that life is best lived within the context of community. We also know that life is messy and no one is perfect. Because of that, we are passionate about embracing the messiness of life and chasing after Jesus and His will for us. We invite everyone to join us for worship each Sunday morning at 10:00 am, either in-person or via Zoom.

The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We work hard to fulfill that mission, not only on Sundays, but also in the work we do in the community, at our weekly food pantry, the Lord’s Treasures Thrift Store Ministry, and so much more!

From our Pastor, George Barcus

I was born and raised in Arizona, growing up for the most part in Flagstaff, Arizona. Throughout my life I have been in several occupations including Truck driving and as a Master Certified Automotive Technician. My call to ministry happened at an early age, though the journey of my life took a few detours. In 1989 I met Linda, and it was love at first sight, though it took a couple months to figure it out. We married in 1991. She is the light of my life.

In 1997 I attended the Walk to Emmaus, a spiritual retreat where the fire of my calling to be a minister of some sort a smoldering ember. Eventually, after jumping through the many hoops of the United Methodist Church, the ember became a flame that continues to guide me today.

In 2003 I became the Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry of the Kingsville, Texas First United Methodist Church where I was working on my higher education at Texas A&M Kingsville.

I was first licensed in 2005 in the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church (Now the Rio Texas Conference) I was appointed to Freer UMC and Bruni UMC. In 2009 I was appointed to Fannin UMC and Telferner UMC near Victoria, TX. In 2011 I finished my Course of Study at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas, Texas. In 2013 I asked to go back to Arizona to be closer to family and I was appointed to the churches at Needles, Blythe and Parker. In 2020 I was appointed to serve the Community UMC in William, Arizona. Now, as of July 1, 2024, I am appointed to the Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church as a full-time pastor.

My current hobbies include Motorcycle riding, hanging out with our dogs Magnum and Gunner, and if I can find a place close enough, Kayaking.

My passion for ministry is to break through the boundaries we place between each other, often through the different denominations. Can we come together with our differences? John Wesley wrote, “We may not all believe alike, but we can love alike.”

Many of the things we argue and fight over are merely surface clutter. Jesus calls us beyond the pettiness of the things of the world to a place that truly brings life.

There is much work to be done. Are you ready? Let’s get busy!!!

Shalom Y’all,
Pastor George Barcus
